Phoenix Roleplaying wins its tenth Tournament of Simulations award!

The results of the 2016 Tournament of Simulations are now out and Phoenix Roleplaying's The Kestrel sim has won the award for Best Firefly Sim.

This marks the tenth win for Phoenix Roleplaying, making it the third most successful club at the awards. Previous wins were in 2013 (Four awards) and 2012 (5 awards).

2014 Phoenix Awards voting has now commenced

Voting for the long overdue 2014 Phoenix Awards is under way, with ballot papers being sent to all registered members to vote on categories such as Player of the Year, Sim Leader of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.

Phoenix Roleplaying wins a Squiddie!

Dear all,

I am highly pleased to announce that Phoenix Roleplaying has won one of this year's three Ongoing Worlds Medals for Superior Online Roleplaying, also know as the Squiddies. We won the prize in the club category, one of three nominees. This is our citation:

"Through a diverse lineup of original and themed games, Phoenix Roleplaying showed in 2013 exactly how to exemplify excellence across a wide range and quantity of simulations.  Phoenix boasts a community high of 9 awards in the Simulation Cup and Tournament of Simulations over the last two years, which is clear evidence of their masterful balance of community and creativity.  Using a democratic leadership structure, they welcome role players of all shapes and sizes and encourage and inspire the imagination of hundreds.  Games are permitted to develop very organically, allowing players to establish deep connections with them and their fellow players.  Instead of getting bogged down in IT and other technicalities, Phoenix specializes in role-playing excellence and does it to the max."

Now we have won this, we will not be eligible to get another club award, but this is something we will never lose.

Phoenix Roleplaying gets four Squiddie Nominations

Phoenix Roleplaying has been nominated four times for this year's Ongoing Worlds Medal for Superior Online Role Playing awards. Each nomination is someone from the simming community thinking the person, game or site is worthy of this award

Silent Hunter and Raven Skycatcher are both nominated in the People category, with the latter's sim The Dark Cometh one of nine eligible nominations in the Games category.

Finally, Phoenix is one of only three nominations in Clubs.

Phoenix Roleplaying wins four awards at Tournament of Simulations 2013

Phoenix Roleplaying has won four awards at the prestigious Tournament of Simulations, the results of which were announced today, its second year of success in the prestigious contest, which was last year called the Simulations Cup.

The first victory went to The Dark Cometh and CANIS UK, which collectively won the prize for Best Adventure/Fantasy Sim; this was not awarded last year.

Another new award was in fact tied - Best Dr. Who Sim was collectively shared between AJJE Games' Doctor Who sim and our own The Triple First.

For the second year in a row, Phoenix won Best Firefly Sim; this year's winner was The Elemental with previous winner Kvant not entered by its SL this year by personal choice.

Finally, Fighter Ops, which won the Excellence in Creativity award last year (Excellence awards were not given out this time) won its second award for Best Military Sim.

There was however disappointment in Best Star Wars Sim: this award, won last year by The West Star, went to Star Wars: Shadow Squadron at Federation Sim Fleet.

Co-chair Chas Hammer said, "It was a pleasure to review Phoenix Roleplaying for this year's ToS.  You offer a diversity of genres that I do not believe is matched anywhere else, and the quality of your games is reflected in those who won in this years ToS".

After much delay and with deliberation, the winners of 2012's Phoenix Awards have been announced.

Phoenix takes home five Simulation Cup awards

In this year’s Simulation Cup, hosted by Ongoing Worlds, Phoenix has won five awards. With the entering of nine sims, this means that over half of the participating Phoenix sims was awarded.

All types and genres of RPG’s could enter the competition and a panel of ten judges in total evaluates the competing sims by either reviewing them live or by reviewing transcripts of recent sim playings. For Phoenix participants this meant that they were asked to submit a link to the best thread of their sims, which were completed in 2012. The juries judged the sims based on originality, creativity, character development, prolificness (a combination of pace and member participation) and readability.

There were three different categories in which sims were categorized: email, message board (the type of sim that all the Phoenix sims fall under) and chat. There were no entrants in the chat category; there were 28 entrants for the email and message board categories.

Kvant won the Outstanding Firefly Sim award, The West Star the Outstanding Star Wars Sim award. Jericho won the Excellence in Originality award, Fighter Ops the Excellence in Creativity Award and Greenleaf Skyplex the Excellence in Character Development award. There were in total 17 awards given.

The total number of judges counted ten, among which was our own Robert Longtin. For the sake of impartiality he did not judge any Phoenix sims, nor did he judge any sims competing against Phoenix sims.

Phoenix Roleplaying wins five Simulation Cup awards

The results of the 2012 Simulation Cup have been announced and Phoenix Roleplaying has done very well indeed!

We entered a total of nine sims and five of them won awards in this competition, whose judges included our own Robert Longtin (although he did not judge any contest with Phoenix sims in).

Kvant won Outstanding Firefly Sim, with The West Star collecting Outstanding Star Wars Sim. 

Excellence awards were also collected by Fighter Ops, Greenleaf Skyplex and Jericho, for creativity, character development and originality respectively.

We will be receiving fuller feedback on our performance and these comments will be posted on the site as soon as possible after we received them.

Two players awarded on 'The West Star'

Amanda Bond and Nick Buchanan are hereby awarded the Hasbro/Mattel Product Placement a Long Time Ago, in a Galaxy Far Far Away Award for taking time out to play some Scrabble in game.

Jason Andersen gets two SL Awards

Demonstrating that he's not just a fine thinker on government issues, Phoenix's 2011 Sim Leader of the Year has earned himself two awards from sims he has played in - D'ni and The Triple Zero.

2011 Awards

Player of the Year goes to Kevin Diamond. His various characters in multiple sims such as Greenleaf, Atlantis, and Fighter Ops are consistently well played.

Sim of the Year goes to The West Star. Quality play and consistent posting have made this the top sim for 2011.

Sim Leader/Assistant SL of the Year goes to Jason Andersen. For keeping our only Star Trek sim going and reviving our Mass Effect sim, but also is ASL for 7 other sims.

GM of the Year goes to Amanda Bond. For being the only GM to create a video to make certain all her players understood the situation, and for her ability to GM a character whose player is on LOA with the same style and mannerisms as the player would.

Aidan Fal is awarded the Bluffing On No Cards award for making the Chinese break off.

Kevin Diamond wins SL Award on Accipter

Kevin 'Zuzutoo' Diamond gets the Ash Leighton Plom SL Best Award Ever for the following post on the Accipiter (an excerpt):

She hoped Tom had a better idea of what to do than she did. She figured out the monitor that showed the woman's heartbeat,
other than that the machines meant little to her. She wasn't trained to be a nurse. She did play an intern on Alderaen General but that was just a bit part for one episode. All she had to say was 'We applied the cortical electrodes, but we were unable to get a neural reaction from either patient.'

Robert Longtin is awarded the "Give Them Want They Want" Award for his character Quinn demonstrating precisely how to deal with a grumbling employee.

Amanda Bond wins sim award on The Elemental

Amanda Bond has been awarded the Ash Leighton Plom SL Award for Joss Whedon Excellence in Firefly GMing after shooting a character who had been on the sim for five years without any warning.

New Sim Level Awards announced

Robert Longtin just won the Ash Leighton Plom SL Award for The Superlative Epicaryest (epic and legendary) Hero Introduction, and Kevin Diamond the Ash Leighton Plom SL Award for Suitably Awed Responses to The Superlative Epicaryest (epic and legendary) Hero Introduction, both on The Triple Zero.

David Anderson is awarded the Ash Leighton Plom SL Award for Actually Being Hugh Jackman, in his roleplay with 'Anzac' in SGB-2, avatared by Hugh Jackman.

Dawn Castell wins the Ash Leighton Plom SL Award for Combining Outright Heroicosity with Believable Vulnerability in a Serviceperson for her characterisation of Avalon McManus in SGB-2 who has always somehow seemed to combine a brave and detached soldier with a wounded abuse victim in one person.

James Mcguire wins the Ash Leighton Plom SL Award for the Most Likeable Yet at the Same Time Manly and Impressive Civie Ever to Serve, in Lucas Fairweather, SGB-2's resident weightlifting geek.

The Ash Leighton Plom SL's Award Recognising Overlooked Loss, Sacrifice, and Constant Heroism is belated granted to Dondi Ratliff for poor Shadra Reu on Accipiter.
