From the newsletter: Writing Challenges

Deborah Leighton Plom has started writing challenges for players of Firefly sims. The challenge is to write a story of up to 400 words in which play-ers expand on characters in various ways.

The posts (which are not in-game) are posted on a separate forum thread and are supposed to give insight in the back-ground of players’ characters. They are also a possible re-source for GMs to use as a reference when writing storylines for those particular characters.

The first writing challenge is set on Unification Day roughly two years ago from the date most of our Firefly sims are currently taking place on.

So far, four players have posted a story. The stories are about a doctor working in a hospital on Londinium, a secu-rity officer working in a burlesque club on Greenleaf Skyplex, a man in the resort city of Rishi on one of Ariel’s moons which seems to have a mysterious connection to the Londinium doctor, and an Alliance officer who is commanded to report to his superiors at once.
.
Leighton Plom posted on Facebook, asking whether people would be interested in writing challenges. The positive feedback was enough for her to put the idea into practice. (mb)

February Firefly Writing Challenge:

Deborah has announced a new writing challenge:

The 'What's-Left-of-February Firefly Writing Challenge', in honour of Valentine's Day, is this:
"FIRST LOVE", in 200 words or less.
Looking for some really creative scribbling here, as 200 words ain't a lot, and 'first love' might apply to pretty much anything!
Can be written from the POV of any of your Firefly characters.
Entries to be posted in the Firefly Cortex and GM info area here:

Firefly writing challenge

In the first of what will hopefully be a regular thing around here, Deborah Leighton Plom has set a writing challenge for the Firefly sim. I'll let her describe it:

Character back stories up to 400 words.
Most sims are set in September 2519 currently (except for An Baile Ur), so for most people it'll be a case of where your character was and what were they doing two years or so ago, (around the date of Unification Day maybe, though not necessarily).
Any player with a character in the Firefly sims can post here.

Post your entries in this thread.

A further clue to my competition

Nobody's got this yet.

So I'll give you a further clue. The character was played by a person who would later star in Dempsey & Makepeace. So if you look at IMDB, you should figure it out fairly quickly.

A competition - just for fun!

I've just submitted a new character to Atlantis. I'm probably one of the first RPers to use the actor Renee Felice Smith as a character avatar:

This is her.

For those of you going "Who on Sihnon is she?" - she plays Nell Jones in NCIS: Los Angeles (which might be obvious from the URL)

****
I digress. This sparky young new merc is going to be called Susan Ling - or Sue Ling for short.

The competition is to guess which cult science-fiction character she's named after - and as a bonus, how Firefly uses a bit of dialogue from the show (and by extension, a classic Western) in one of its early episodes.

I'll give you a clue; the show is British and the creator created something very nasty.
